For most of the labs we order, we have a standard set of instructions to follow (see below). Please call our office for clarifications on your specific lab instructions if you have any questions.
*Effective April 9, 2024: No changes to lab orders can be made by the phlebotomist on the day of the blood draw. Any changes must be approved by the provider through the office staff. Please allow 48 hours for change requests to be considered.
- Fast 10-12 hours before your draw unless we have told you otherwise. Drink only water during these fasting hours.
- Drink plenty of water the day before and morning of your blood draw.
- Don't take any medications, vitamins, supplements, hormones, thyroid meds, etc. before your blood draw. Take them after your draw that morning. You are okay to take your nightly meds the night before the draw.
- Avoid exercising right before the draw.
- Go in for the draw before 10am.
- If you have menstrual cycles, go in for the draw about 3/4ths of the way through your entire cycle. (i.e. if you have a 28 day cycle, it's best to go in around day 21). If your cycles are irregular and not consistent, go in for the draw when you are not bleeding/spotting.
- If you are doing testosterone injections, go in for the draw at least 4-5 days after your injection.
- Bring your insurance card with you.
